Today’s post and posts to follow will consist of The STI Project’s STI/STD Briefs. These briefs are intended to give readers (specifically those who weren’t aware many of these STIs/STDs existed) an overview of each STI, their commonality, treatment options, and diagnostic tests available.

Chancroid Symptoms, Test & Treatment
Common? Rare – Around 100 people contract it in the U.S. annually
Symptoms Open genital sores, may produce pus, may be painful, swollen glands in the groin. In people with vulvas/vaginas, less obvious symptoms produce painful urination, painful intercourse, rectal bleeding, or unusual vaginal discharge
Cure? Antibiotics
Bacterial/Viral/Fungal/Parasitic Bacterial
Test Pus examined via microscope, culture of a sore or through a blood test – must see healthcare provider because chancroid symptoms are difficult to differentiate between symptoms of more common STIs
Life-Long? No
